From memory to bandwidth, how do you know if your bare metal server will meet your data storage and delivery needs? Let’s take a look at what you need to know compare server models and hosting packages with confidence…
 

Memory  

Memory dictates how fast your server process without writing to the disk. This means that if you have 32GB of memory, then you can have up to 32GB stored in read access memory (RAM). Bare metal server options include memory from 16GB to 64GB, depending on your RAM requirements.

Central Processing Unit (CPU) 

The CPU is the engine of a server. However, it is also where a lot of problems can stem from. As a CPU works it gets hotter. Data centers must accommodate rising temperatures with state-of-the-art cooling systems. If not, CPU failure can cause downtime or a complete server crash. Modern CPUs have multiple cores located on one chip. Each core represents the processing section, so if you compare a modern quad-core CPU then you can imagine the power of four CPUs in your server.  

When choosing the perfect server to meet your requirements, you have options that vary between four core processors all the way up to 2×10 core processors, depending on your needs. 2×10 core processors equal the processing power of 20 CPUs in one single server. Frequency 

Frequency is the rate that the CPU computes. It is typically measured in gigahertz or GHz. The higher the frequency the more quickly your server processes requests. However, at times you can substitute speed for power. 

THG Hosting bare metal server options range between 2.1 GHz to 3.8 GHz. The lower frequency processors are more powerful because they have more cores and more threads. More cores mean that your server can process more workload, but it will not complete each task as quickly.
  

Storage 

THG Hosting has three storage options. Traditional SATA Hard Disk Drives have slower RPMs but allow for more capacity. SATA Solid State Disk Drives are much faster than HDDs and process read/writes more quickly but are limited on capacity. Typically, SSDs are found in 4TB and smaller sizes. NVME SSDs are the fastest read/write option for your server. However, NVME SSDs are only offered in 500GB. Like the traditional SATA SSD, NVME SSDs are limited in capacity. 

Bare metal options include all three storage options based on your requirements. Whether you require an HDD or NVME SSD, our specialized solutions have the power and read/write speed you need.
 

Chassis  

Chassis are the body of your server. It determines exactly what you can fit inside of your server depending on its size. For solutions requiring additional features, a larger chassis is required. However, basic solutions might be met with our Microcloud option. 

Bare metal servers offer options that range between a Microcloud and 4U configurations. A Microcloud is a high-performance option with a much lower price tag. It includes two drives and is a great configuration for basic solutions that don’t need additional hardware. Our 1U-4U options are space-saving options that allow up to 24 total drive bays to meet your hardware requirements.
  

Connectivity  

THG Hosting only offers 1Gbps throughput by default. Network ports come in various sizes and configurations whether it’s 1Gbps or 2x1Gbps bonded.

Bandwidth 

Bandwidth is determined entirely by the throughput (network speed) that your server maintains. Typically, THG Hosting offers 100TB of outbound or egress traffic per server. However, you need to monitor your network throughput because if you were to push a full 1GB per second for an entire month, you could push close to 320TB. Hence why bandwidth is entirely dependent on network speed or throughput. 

THG Hosting offers bandwidth monitoring to help you understand exactly how much bandwidth your server is consuming. If at any point during the month you need additional bandwidth, quickly and easily add 50TB, 100TB, or 500TB of bandwidth to your account to avoid costly overages.
